Italians to question the tutor of murdered Cambridge student Giulio Regeni

Investigators have also asked British judicial authorities to help identify other Cambridge students sent to study in Egypt under Dr Abdelrahman in the three years prior to Regeni’s study period. A Cambridge university spokesperson confirmed yesterday/Thursday that a range of dates has been mutually agreed upon for Dr Abdelrahman’s deposition. “The University has recently been made aware of a formal request for testimony issued by Italian prosecutors. Both the University and Dr Abdelrahman are cooperating fully. We strongly reject any suggestion that Dr Abdelrahman has deliberately postponed or delayed her testimony,” a spokesperson said. Italian media reported that she failed to show up two days in a row last June for a summons to appear before Italian investigators at a Cambridge police station. The Italian magistrates then issued a European Investigation Order, a formal petition to the UK Central Authority, the British body responsible for collaboration with EU judicial authorities.
