US officials being sent to Solomon Islands a ‘slap on the wrist’ for Australia

Senior US officials have arrived in the Solomon Islands for a series of talks over China's presence in the Indo-pacific following the security pact between the Solomon Islands and Beijing being signed. The White House has spoken out over the pact, saying it's concerned over the lack of transparency and unspecified nature of the agreement. ANU Strategic and Defence Studies Centre Professor John Blaxland said it marks as a “slap on the wrist” for Australia, with it being a sign the United States is not comfortable with the way Australia has handled the situation. He also said the US is looking to “throw in a bit more muscle” to look at how they can mitigate the effects of the security pact.
